How to disconnect obs (virt cam) and zoom?
I have a PC without a camera but when I enter a zoom meeting, because obs’s virtual cam and zoom are linked, it shows a camera icon with a slash on it to the other zoom participants. But if it is a PC without a camera, it’s not supposed to show a video icon to the others.
Even if I click turn on my video it only shows a blue screen with obs icon and a video icon on it. Every time I get asked why I don’t have my camera on and explaining it to everyone is a hassle so I uninstall obs every time I join a meeting now. Is there a way to disconnect obs and zoom so I can hide my video icon to everybody?

I am a novice, but I believe what is happening is Zoom is seeing and selecting the OBS’s virtual camera driver as your camera. You can turn off your camera in zoom. When running Zoom on a windows macbine, there is a camera on the bottom left side of the zoom application. If you click on it, it will turn off your camera. You can also click on the carrot > to see what other video devices soom sees. I believe you can also join the conference without a camera.
I wonder if there is a way to tell windows not to use the obs virtual driver by default. Alternatively, you could plug a webcamera into the system and choose it as the default.
I know you can also uninstall the virtual camera from OBS by running virtualcam-uninstall.bat I do not know if this has any other unwanted effects.
To uninstall on windows, you close OBS, then navigate to the install directory of OBS. I think it is something like:
C:\Program Files (x86)\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow
In this folder find virtualcam-uninstall.bat Right click and «run as administrator».
How to Uninstall OBS Virtual Camera? This is messing with other apps
I noticed that I’m unable to avoid using the OBS Virtual Camera when trying to take a photo from Chrome (WhatsApp web). I’m in incognito mode and even if I go to the Chrome camera settings and select the internal laptop’s webcam, it is still showing in the Chrome tab for whatsapp and when I try to take a photo again I receive the same blocker. I do not want to have the OBS VC available as I do not record myself. How can I uninstall that feature?

I’m also unable to find this. Also, do you have the instructions to do this for Mac? I’m only having this problem in Chrome, Safari is fine.

In windows, the uninstall exe is in C:\Program Files\obs-studio. It is named something like «uninstall-obs-camera.exe». (Sorry ran mine before getting the exact name.)

Thank you everyone and especially Nehemoth for the new location of the batch file. This has been driving me absolutely insane the past few weeks. I’ve been using GoToMeeting on 2 machines and it always wants to select the OBS Virtual Camera on my PC when all I want to use it for is monitoring the class. This batch file did the trick. No messing around with the registry.

I just found out that there is an easier way to uninstall the virtualcam plugin.
1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Programs and Features
2. Scroll down to OBS-VirtualCam
3. Click on uninstall

I uninstalled OBS completely out of desperation, deleted the dll’s I could find, and it’s still there!
Can anyone offer any help? This has been interfering with my online meetings for 3 months now!

I would love instructions on how to do this for Mac. OBS virtual Webcam not only doesn’t work, it somehow disabled my ACTUAL webcam (regardless of whether OBS is running or not).

My mistake. I credited Nehemoth for the correct path when in fact it was R1CH who posted the correct path weeks before. Nehemoth’s is also correct, it’s just the same path. No offense to either of you, I hope.

So I install OBS. I don’t want the software anymore. I uninstall it. And suddenly my webcam doesn’t work anymore. And the only solution to make my webcam work is to reinstall the software, let it sleep there even if I don’t want to? Wow. Welcome to 2021. Better solution?

Just encountered the error myself. Deleted the virtual camera, but don’t want to delete the software. Should we post this in a bug report or something?

I just had the same issue. Went to access teams and only integrated cam. No Logitech cam, only OBS virtual cam. Tried everything bar uninstalling OBS and even then, by the sounds of things, that wont help. Wtf OBS? I never agreed to installing this pos virtual cam thing in the first place. I switched to a new laptop after having my desktop 5 years with OBS the whole time, no virtual cam to be seen. New machine, new version, bam. No webcam.
Very frustrating and if I have to wipe my laptop to get it to go away I will be switching to another video capture tool.
Fix it, fast, OBS.

For mac :
Hit «CMD+SHIFT+G», then enter /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ Delete the file named obs-mac-virtualcam. plugin — you might be asked for your password to confirm the deletion.

I trialled OBS and the OBS Virtual Cam for a potential setup but no longer required it. I uninstalled both programs but the 4 virtual cams installed are available for selection in Zoom.
How do I remove these cameras for my laptop?
- Windows 10 version 1909
- Zoom version 4.6.10 (20033.0407)
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
helmut-steiner commented May 4, 2020 •
- Open the registry editor
- Go to Edit->Find.
- Type OBS-Camera in the text box and hit Find Next
- You should find some registry entries with OBS Camera name
- Delete them

Hi there
I have the same problem on Windows 10, the OBS-Camera is still visible in my meet sessions.
There is no registry entry named «OBS-Camera»
Any hint welcome to get rid of this ghost camera please.

I am having this same issue. Previously I had «obs-camera» and «OBS Virtual Camera» as different options. Now after uninstalling the plugin, the «obs-camera» option is gone, but «OBS Virtual Camera» still lingers. I cannot figure out how to remove it.
nonplayer commented Oct 12, 2020
On Win10x64, I did a complete uninstall of OBS vrtualcam, ndi plugin, and OBS Studio itself. It left behind one single file:
C:\Program Files\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow\obs-virtualcam-module32.dll
This got my hopes up, as it seemed to match the criteria. So I ran:
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow\obs-virtualcam-module32.dll"
then deleted it. Rebooted. Back up. still no luck. «OBS Virtual Camera» is still a phantom option in Zoom and Discord.

Okay more sleuthing. I realized I didn’t have «entire string» checked on registry searches. I found the following location matches for «OBS Virtual Camera»:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\ Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\
I renamed each of them to see which would change, and the third one was the culprit, at least as far as appearing in the camera selections. Each of these was connected to something called «VFW Capture Class Manager» which I am unsure of. Initial google searches also mention a lot of malware, but that’s really not my area of expertise, so whatever.
Anyway, I removed those keys and no longer see the phantom camera.
nonplayer commented Oct 12, 2020
Welp, nevermind. I reinstalled OBS 26 with the current release, and the camera came back. Is it now part of the core application?
timjobutler commented Oct 17, 2020
@nonplayer Thanks for the tips on the registry keys.
A couple of the specific strings didn’t match my system but using the search phrase «obs-camera» I was able to find all of the keys.

Deleting all keys with the phrase «obs-camera» removed the 4 OBS Cameras from Zoom.
Thanks all for your help.

I tried all of the suggested things above and I was unable to remove this program. Instead, I create another issue where I have another device called «nameless»! This stupid program won’t let me remove it! I tried uninstalling it using this method:
regsvr32 /u «C:\Program Files\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow\obs-virtualcam-module32.dll»
Both the 32bit and the 64bit versions.
Deleting it through the registry, and practically everything.
This one keeps popping up even after I delete it:
Anything you can do to help me would be great.

Is this some type of malware or something and how do I get it off of my computer.
PS: This whole issue is happening in Zoom but it still hasn’t removed from the tool bar in OBS.
Edit: I was able to remove the one called «nameless» but I still have the other one called «OBS Virtual Camera» there. For anybody who is having the same issue with the first part, I had to restart my computer and then that made the option to uninstall it appear in the regular Windows uninstall area. It also still appears in the tool area of OBS. I have since remove OBS completely after this issue and the camera still appears in Zoom. Any help to remove the «OBS Virtual Camera» is greatly appreciated.

This is a big problem:

This is a big problem:

@dzlandis How did you remove the nameless camera? I still have this in my Zoom camera list, but nowhere else.
