How to remove Skype?
Can anyone please tell me how to completely remove Skype from Ubuntu 18.04? There’s lots of advice on how to install Skype, but none on how to uninstall it. Skype came with the upgrade I think. How can I remove Skype?

@Kulfy — you should post these as an answer in combo with a link to a snap description like askubuntu.com/questions/761245/…, they are correct

- Click the «Ubuntu» button, type «Terminal» (without the quotations) and then press Enter .
- Type sudo apt-get —purge remove skypeforlinux (earlier package name was skype ) and then press Enter
- Enter your Ubuntu password to confirm that you wish to completely remove Skype and then press Enter
- Click the «Ubuntu» button, type «Home» (without the quotations) and then press Enter to open your home folder.
- Press Ctrl — H to display hidden folders. Locate and delete the «.skype» folder. Copied and pasted.

Not working: «package skype not found». Working answer is the one from Billal Begueradj.

GUI method : Right click on Skype in app drawer and click Show details. You’ll be redirected to Ubuntu Software Center. From there you can on uninstall. This would I call the easiest method.
CLI method: Open terminal and run sudo snap remove skype and if this doesn’t work try sudo apt-get —purge remove skype

apt-cache pkgnames | grep skype
python-skype4py
skypeforlinux
empathy-skype
pidgin-skype-dbg
pidgin-skype-common
pidgin-skype
sudo apt-get purge skypeforlinux
SKYPE on ubuntu 14-04 — how to upgrade it?
SKYPE has upgraded its soft some while ago, and I missed my chance to reinstall it at that point. One of my comps run ubuntu 12-something, and I guess it is hopeless now to reactivate SKYPE on it now without upgrading it to a more recent ubuntu release (and I hate doing that), while another one (laptop Dell Precision 5510) runs ubuntu 14-04, and I hope it would accept latest SKYPE soft. If this is still doable, how do I do it? Thanks.

Skype snap package
You don’t need to the download the .deb package for Skype for Linux or install Skype from a PPA anymore. Skype has been released as a native snap package in Ubuntu 14.04 and later.
snap find skype Name Version Developer Notes Summary skype 8.33.0.41 skype classic One Skype for all your devices. New features. New look. All Skype.
To install Skype in all currently supported versions of Ubuntu open the terminal and type:
sudo apt install snapd sudo snap install skype --classic
The skype snap package will be updated automatically when updates are available.
After you have tested that the skype snap package is working correctly you can uninstall the old version of Skype that you were using before.
Ubuntu 12.04
Ubuntu 12.04 is no longer getting software updates and does not support installing snap packages, so download the Skype for Linux .deb package instead or else upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to a more recent Ubuntu LTS release. Ubuntu 12.04 is an end of life release. To resolve package dependencies in Ubuntu 12.04, you need to read How to install software or upgrade from an old unsupported release?.
Open the terminal and type:
cd ~/Downloads/ wget https://repo.skype.com/latest/skypeforlinux-64.deb sudo apt install ./skypeforlinux-64.deb
When you install the Skype for Linux .deb package it automatically adds a repository to keep your installation of Skype up to date.

Skype for Linux. just freezes?
Something’s happened recently to my Skype for Linux. I’m running Ubuntu 16.06LTS. It used to work fine. Haven’t upgraded hardware or anything like that but recently it just repeatedly hangs.
The process is exactly this:
1. I select «Skype» from the application menu.
2. It flashes a message saying «You’ve been signed out of Skype, launch the application to sign back in» (with a ‘View’ button).
3. The login screen appears.
Up to this, no worries.
But when I log in, nothing happens. the Skype window stays white, never loads any of the dial options or my chat messages, etc., and it just sits there.
I’ve installed and reinstalled via apt-get, and I’ve even tried to use the direct one from the Skype website. 8.15.0.4 They are the same.
I sleuthed around and don’t see lots of people having this issue so perhaps I’m searching wrong or maybe it’s just me. Anyone know what’s going on?
