Многие пользователи до сих пор помнят iOS 6 со скевоморфизмом, который выгодно выделялся на фоне других операционных систем.

С момента её выхода прошло уже больше восьми лет. Однако мне стало интересно, можно ли пользоваться iOS 6 в 2021 году, и если да, то с какими проблемами придется столкнуться.

Хорошо, что у меня есть iPhone 4s на iOS 6 без джейлбрейка. На нем я проверял работоспособность системы.

Какие айфоны сейчас вообще работают на iOS 6?

Стоит понимать, что iOS 6 это архаичная система. Соответственно, предназначена она для таких же старых смартфонов:

Лучше всего система работает на iPhone 4s и 5 , поскольку они оснащались двухъядерным процессором, а iPhone 5 еще и 1 ГБ оперативной памяти (в 4s 512 МБ ОЗУ).

iPhone 3GS – самый неподходящий смартфон для тех, кто хочет вспомнить iOS 6. Помимо слабого железа, у него установлен не Retina-экран.

iPhone 4 очень тяжело найти на iOS 6, да и нужно ли вообще это делать, большой вопрос. Скорее всего, нет.

А вот iPhone 4s на iOS 6 вызывает приятные воспоминания. Смартфон очень компактный, и в наши дни, когда диагональ дисплея 6,1 дюйма считается стандартом, это непривычно.

Но жить можно. Я быстро адаптировался к набору текста одной рукой и не переживаю, что смартфон случайно выскользнет и разобьётся.

99% приложений не поддерживают iPhone 4s на iOS 6

С приложениями на iOS 6 все сложно. Большинство стандартных программ работают отлично. Погода и Акции запускаются, но не показывают информацию, потому что API Yahoo устарели.

Также стоит учитывать, что в iOS 6 нет приложений и сервисов Apple, которые вышли после 2012 года: Apple Music, FaceTime, Wallet, Здоровье, Дом, Apple TV, Apple Arcade и iCloud Drive .

Большинство приложений из App Store не поддерживают iOS 6.

Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter, VK, Сбербанк, Альфа Банк, Яндекс Go, Uber, Ситимобил, 2ГИС, Яндекс.Карты, Google Maps и Shazam не работают на iOS 6.

Если повезет, сможете загрузить старую версию приложения или игры. У меня так получилось с Telegram, Facebook, Snapseed, Subway Surf, Temple Run 2 и Doodle Jump.

Однако вы вряд ли найдете актуальную версию какого-нибудь приложения, которая будет совместима с iOS 6.

К сожалению, из-за этого полноценно пользоваться смартфоном невозможно.

Кому, а главное, зачем может быть нужен iPhone 4s в 2021 году?

Это был первый вопрос, которым я задался после включения iPhone 4s. Мы имеем старое устройство и операционную систему, которая не поддерживает современные приложения. Любой телефон на Android за 5–7 тысяч рублей умеет больше. Но не все так просто.

Хоть и по возможностям бюджетные Android-смартфоны превосходят iPhone 4s на iOS 6, они все равно выглядят и ощущаются в руке ужасно, а работают еще хуже.

C простыми задачами iPhone 4s справляется отлично. Он не глючит, быстро запускает приложения, а его камера не хуже, чем у любого дешевого Xiaomi или Samsung.

Однако отсутствие приложений – все же решающий фактор. iPhone 4s не годится в качестве временной замены основному смартфону.

Зато он отлично справится с ролью телефона для второй SIM-карты . Собеседника хорошо слышно, на качество микрофона тоже никто не жаловался. При необходимости можно быстро добавить заметку, событие в календарь или напоминание. А благодаря поддержке iCloud, все изменения будут отображаться на других устройствах Apple.

И никогда не обновляйтесь с iOS 6 на iOS 7, 8, 9, 10. Смартфоны будут работать медленнее, а в случае iPhone 4s на iOS 9, это даже работой назвать нельзя. Кроме того, любой айфон на iOS 6 является хорошим напоминанием о том, как раньше Apple представляла идеальную операционную систему. Сегодня это раритетные устройства.

Apple warn that these iPhone models will become obsolete

Apple are once again warning users that older iPhone models will become obsolete in the near future, making them nearly impossible to maintain or even repair. This is part of the typical push to move people to newer phones.

Thanks to Apple constantly updating their gadgets and technologies, it becomes inevitable that older and outdated iPhone models become obsolete. This year will see the release of the iPhone 14, the follow up to the iPhone 13 which was underwhelming indifferent to the previous iPhone 12 . More and more consumers have been opting for refurbished devices which are up to 40% cheaper such as this refurbished iPhone 13 or this iPhone 12 Pro .

Latest figures from Statista show that they’ve had the highest market share of any phone manufacturer in the last quarter of 2021, at 24%.

Apple will no longer sell some older models and will no longer provide repairs for them. This is because they are expected to slow down by this time, and it is usually quicker to upgrade to a newer model with more features.

Apple’s iPhone has been a major success since its debut in 2007, and according to Statista, they had the biggest market share of any phone maker in the fourth quarter of 2021.

When the late Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone, he revolutionised the face of the mobile phone business.

How does apple make phones obsolete?

Put simply, apple stops issuing software updates for older models and no longer supports first-party repair either directly or through its network of certified repair partners.

What are the latest models to become obsolete?

According to Apple, iPhone models as late as the iPhone 6 Plus will become obsolete. These are also known as ‘vintage iPhones,’ as they indicate that «Apple stopped selling them more than five and fewer than seven years ago.»

iPhones set to become obsolete are as follows:

Apple advised: «Owners of iPhone, iPad , iPod, Mac or Apple TV products may obtain a service and parts from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores and Independent Repair Providers, for a minimum of 5 years from when Apple last distributed the product for sale.

«Service and parts may be obtained for longer, as required by law, or for up to 7 years, subject to parts availability.»

What can you do?

Unfortunately, not a lot. This means inevitably having to upgrade. This being said if your running an older ‘vintage model’ such as the iPhone 6 chances are you’re already holding on. Typically, devices this old do start experiencing ware and take or just general performance issues as the apps and software need more hardware power to operate. Kind of like trying to run new software on an old PC, it just doesn’t work well. In the majority of cases, its battery issues unless you’ve upgraded your battery. Even with older phones with new batteries, the performance demand from the apps and software can deplete the battery in a matter of hours.
